Our vision

The Strengthening health care systems to meet patients’ need for plasma and plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) initiative envisions a world where PDMPs are accessible and available to all patients in need, regardless of geographical or economic barriers. By fostering robust public-private partnerships, we aim to inform evidence-based patient-centered public policies and regulations, significantly improving the standards of care for patients globally and strengthening health systems. In pursuing this vision, we uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and commit to conduct our work with transparency, fairness and accountability.

Our mission

The Strengthening health care systems to meet patients’ need for plasma and plasma-derived medicinal products initiative is on a promising path to bring significant change, with pilot projects in Argentina, Malaysia and India showcasing potential for global impact. Our mission is to create a sustainable framework that not only addresses the current demand for PDMPs but also prepares for future needs through continuous collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. By aiming to expand this multi-stakeholder partnership, its reach and deepening our impact, we strive to make significant strides in global health, ensuring that every patient has access to the life-saving treatments. We will do so consistently with the UN Global Compact and generally accepted standards of ethics, integrity, accountability and transparency across our governance, partnerships and operations.

Through collaboration with key stakeholders, including representatives from industry (Takeda, Intas), patient organizations (International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies, World Federation of Hemophilia, GBS-CIDP Foundation International), and trade organization (PPTA), we are dedicated to achieving the following strategic objectives:

1.     Raising Awareness

  • Gathering and developing comprehensive educational resources to increase public and professional awareness about the critical need for PDMPs.

  • Maintaining and improving Plasma4.Life, a knowledge platform that serves as a go-to resource for policymakers, healthcare professionals and the public, containing up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge, best practices, international regulations, and ethical considerations.

2.     Local Solutions

  • Establishing a multi-stakeholder platform that brings together experts from various fields to inform public policies and regulations based on the latest scientific evidence.

  • ·Facilitating regular meetings and communication among stakeholders to exchange unique perspectives and develop innovative solutions.

  • Engaging local partners to tailor solutions that address specific local challenges and ensure sustainable impacts.

  • Conducting situation analyses and consultations with global experts and patient organizations to identify ideal countries for initial implementation.

3.     Strengthening Health Systems

  • Conducting webinars and training sessions on key topics such as plasma fractionation, therapy selection, plasmapheresis, patient and donor safety, and manufacturing of PDMPs including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to enhance the expertise of healthcare professionals and policy makers.

  • Contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals by promoting good health, quality education, reducing inequalities, and building strong partnerships.

  • Creating a conducive environment for future patient-centred policy and legislation changes through local ownership of projects.

  • Enhancing access to health for people suffering from rare diseases, with the potential to expand the project to include other severe medical conditions that require PDMPs.

  • Working to bolster health systems to improve the infrastructure, capacity, and efficiency needed to collect, process, and distribute PDMPs effectively.

  • Enhancing the resilience of health systems to manage and respond to the increasing demand for PDMPs.

  • Ensuring that improvements in PDMP accessibility are integrated into broader health system strengthening initiatives to maximize overall health outcomes for patients.
