The "Plasma Policy Insights: Navigating Challenges and Solutions" webinar, co-organized by UNITAR and Abbott as part of the Plasma4Life initiative, brought together over 150 participants, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and industry leaders from across the globe. The event aimed to address the critical role of plasma-derived medicinal products in healthcare and the challenges surrounding plasma policies.

Plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) are essential for treating a range of life-threatening conditions, including immune deficiencies, bleeding disorders, and neurological diseases. However, the global supply of PDMPs faces significant challenges, such as limited plasma collection, regulatory barriers, and disparities in healthcare infrastructure. These issues are even more pronounced in LMICs, where access to safe, effective, and affordable PDMPs remains a major public health concern.

The webinar served as a dynamic platform to explore the complexities of plasma policies from multiple perspectives. By fostering dialogue among stakeholders from government bodies, international organizations, private sector, academia, and patient groups, the event sought to identify sustainable solutions to enhance PDMP availability and to strengthen national health systems. The discussions centered on different aspects of plasma collection, cross-border plasma transfers, and the harmonization of regulatory frameworks to promote global health equity.
